Thanks to a Princess Cruises casino deal, I recently took the Sky Princess to Norway. I took this trip with my 17-year-old son, Tanner. We were joined by my parents in their mid-70s. Cruising is my favorite way to bring the whole family together—grandparents, kids, and everyone in between. Want to know how I scored this unforgettable trip using points and miles? Travel Delay Tips & Chase Sapphire Insurance
Our trip started rocky due to weather delays here in the States. I always recommend flying the day before, and thankfully, we did. It gave us time to re-route to Boston and then to London instead of our scheduled trip through Atlanta. Thanks to some amazing people at Delta, we were able to arrive in London the day of our cruise in time to get to Southampton and board the beautiful Sky Princess. We ended up missing a hotel stay in London.
If you have ever had a travel delay, you know how frustrating it can be. I use my Chase Sapphire card to book all my travel. When delays happen, it can be costly with hotel stays and additional meals. The Chase Sapphire includes travel insurance as one of their card benefits. I have filed two claims in the past year and I will file another claim for this delay. You can read about my other two claims here and here.
I had booked my night in London on points. However, when you cancel a point stay after the cutoff, Hyatt charges us the one-night fee instead of using our points. Our points were returned. I will say I have never no-showed at a hotel before. However, this was a crazy travel 36 hours, and I did not have the energy to call them. I had rebooked my flights on my own about 5x’s, and then I ran out of options on the delta app, and the amazing desk agents in Nashville and Boston had to do the rest. I have already sent a big thank you to Delta, including all the names of the amazing people who helped us make this trip a reality. I thought at several points we weren’t going to make it.

London Transfers
We originally booked a transfer from our London hotel to Southampton, but after realizing we wouldn’t make it to the hotel in time, I contacted the company through Viator to request a pickup from Heathrow instead. They were incredibly accommodating and quickly adjusted our plans.
After landing at 6:30 AM, we met our driver at 7:20 outside Heathrow. He helped us with our luggage and got us on the road to Southampton. By 8:30 AM, we had arrived at the cruise terminal—plenty of time before our scheduled boarding at 10:15. We found cozy seats in the waiting area and relaxed until lunch was served in the main dining room at noon.
For this trip, we used two different transportation companies for our transfers to and from Southampton, and both experiences were smooth and reliable. They were both great! Learn more here: Southampton Transfers

Port Highlights: Haugesund, Skjolden & Stavanger
We sailed 7 days on the Sky Princess. Our trip was the first week of August. We were scheduled for 4 ports for this cruise. However, we ended up missing a port due to a storm. We missed our port in Olden. Of course, we were sad we had booked a fun hike to a glacier. My son and I were both looking forward to it. On a positive note, the company we used Olden Adventures, sent us a message saying they had notice we would not be in port the day of our excursions. We would receive a refund for our excursion. We had it before we even left the ship.
We did make the following ports: (You can click the port name to learn more about what we did at the port)
Haugesand - We visited a Viking Farm. I chose this one for my dad specifically. After searching his ancestry, we knew he had Viking blood. I thought he would enjoy seeing what life was like for his ancestors. I was right!
Skjolden - This is a charming village. We ended up exploring on foot. If I had known we would not be going to Olden, I would have booked a RIB tour for my son and me. They were sold out way in advance; this was not an option at this point. We did enjoy a beautiful walk around the area.
Stavenger - We booked a boat ride through the Fjords to Pulput rock. It was a fun day and perfect for our multi-generational group. I would do it again.
This was my second time sailing aboard the Sky Princess—and she’s just as stunning as I remembered. I was thrilled to experience her again, this time through the breathtaking fjords of Norway. It was a truly memorable trip for all of us. I first sailed Sky Princess back in February on a Caribbean itinerary, and that voyage was equally unforgettable. You can read all about that sun-soaked adventure [here].
London Transfers & Post-Cruise Stay
After our cruise, we spent a day in London before heading back to the States. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Blackfriars. This was a beautiful hotel. The hotel staff was amazing and the location was fantastic. We were about a mile away from Parliament Square. We took a beautiful walk along the Thames and visited Trafalgar Square and the Churchill War Rooms.
Final Thoughts
Sailing through the Norway fjords aboard Sky Princess was nothing short of magical. From dramatic landscapes to smooth logistics—even with a few unexpected travel hiccups—this multi-generational cruise delivered unforgettable memories for our entire family. I’m so grateful we got to experience this itinerary, and even more thrilled that we did it using points, perks, and a little travel hacking.
