Cruising through the Norwegian Fjords? If your itinerary includes Haugesund, Norway, you’re in for a unique excursion that blends Viking history, scenic boat rides, and immersive cultural experiences. On our recent Princess Cruises voyage, we chose the Viking Farm tour—and it turned out to be a memorable stop on our trip. From the moment we stepped onto the boat to the final stroll through the reconstructed village, Haugesund delivered charm, history, and accessibility for all ages. Whether you're cruising with seniors, traveling with kids, or just craving a deeper connection to Norway’s past, this Haugesund cruise port guide will help you decide if the Viking Farm is worth your time—and how to make the most of it.

On our recent sailing of the Sky Princess, we booked the Viking farm tour with Get Your Guide to a Viking Farm.

What to Expect: Boat Ride & Village Tour

The tour started from the Cruise terminal, where we took a 5 minute walk to a boat.

We checked in at the booth and were told where to wait for our guide.

Our guide met us outside the cruise port and led us to the boat

It was about 5 - 10 minute walk to the boat

We boarded a boat for about a 30 minute ride to the Island where the reconstructed Viking Farm. The boat ride was gorgeous. We had these evalated seats so we could see everything!

Once we got to the island, we were met by a tour guide dressed as a viking. He took us on about a 30 minute guided tour through the small village. We learned Viking history and the area.

Viking Village

We were given about 30 minutes free time to explore the small village on our own

We boarded the boat back to town, and they dropped us off at the Digital Viking Museum. This was included in our ticket. I will be honest, we weren’t into the digital museum. The tour also dropped us off on the other side of the water, so we now had to get my mid-70s parents back over a huge pedestrian bridge. I tried to get an Uber for my parents, but there were none in the area. They have very limited taxis, so we started walking back very early.

What We Loved (and Skipped)

We chose this excursion partly because it was labeled “0+ age”—a good fit for my senior parents. My dad has always joked about having Viking blood, so visiting a Viking site in Norway felt like a meaningful way to connect with that heritage. The day was lovely, and he told me afterward that he was really glad we went. We did skip the digital museum, and honestly, I wish we’d had more time to explore the village itself—it felt a bit rushed. One thing I hadn’t anticipated was the massive pedestrian bridge between the port and the excursion meeting point. Navigating that with my parents was stressful, and I wish I’d known about it in advance to plan better.

Final Thoughts on Haugesund’s Viking Farm Excursion If your Norwegian Fjords cruise includes Haugesund, this Viking Farm tour offers a refreshing blend of history, nature, and cultural storytelling. It’s ideal for travelers seeking a slower-paced, scenic excursion with meaningful local flavor—especially seniors or families looking for something unique and accessible. While it may not be adrenaline-packed, the charm lies in its authenticity and peaceful setting. Whether you book through Princess Cruises or independently via GetYourGuide, Haugesund’s Viking experience is a memorable way to connect with Norway’s past while enjoying the beauty of its present.
