A storm forced us to skip our next port, Olden, so the captain kept us safely docked in Skjolden overnight. Honestly? It was a gift. Waking up to the fjords two days in a row felt magical.
Skjolden is tiny — no duty‑free shops, no crowds, no chaos. Just a quiet waterfront, a small grocery store, and some of the most peaceful scenery you’ll find on any cruise itinerary.
We spent our morning walking along the water’s edge, taking in the mountain views and crisp Norwegian air. The fjord was so still it looked like glass. And yes… we even got a rainbow.

Even though Skjolden is small, there are several easy, scenic things to do right off the ship:

The walk along the fjord is flat, peaceful, and perfect for photos. This is the best free activity in Skjolden. My 76-year-old dad joined us on our walk this morning. All three of us really enjoyed this beautiful day.
