On our recent Norwegian Fjords cruise aboard the Sky Princess, our second port of call was Skjolden—a quiet, scenic village tucked deep into the fjords. Unlike the bustling Caribbean ports we’re used to, Skjolden is extremely small and serene. We decided to skip the organized excursions and explore on our own, which turned out to be the perfect choice. With stunning mountain views, calm waters, and a walkable waterfront, this peaceful stop gave us a chance to slow down and soak in the beauty of Norway.

Thanks to a storm , we had to skip the next port Olden. However, to keep us safe we spent the night here and sailed safely out the next morning.

How We Spent Our Day in Skjolden

The only store we visited was the local co-op grocery, and that was just to grab cough drops for my son. No duty-free chaos, no souvenir overload—just a simple, scenic village tucked between towering mountains and glassy water.

We headed out early in the morning to walk along the water’s edge, and the views were unreal. Gorgeous peaks, mirror-like fjords, and fresh mountain air made this one of the most relaxing cruise stops we’ve ever had.

We were even blessed with this rainbow.

Final Thoughts + Travel Hack Tips

We enjoyed seeing the beauty all around us. Before we headed back to the ship, we bought fresh cinnamon rolls from the store right outside the ship. They were delicious!

If you are looking for something more adventurous, I would recommend the RIB boat tours. They looked like so much fun. They were sold out by the time I realized what that was.
