Family Trip to Quebec City: Free Flights on Points

Family trip to Quebec City

I have a jam-packed summer full of travel. My 19-year-old, Finn, mentioned he wouldn’t mind us traveling together. He didn’t have to say that twice. Finn loves Europe, we both do! However, I started thinking where we could go to get European vibes without the long flights and jet lag. I immediately thought we should visit Quebec City, Canada.

Booking Flights to Quebec City with Points

I knew I had met the spending requirements for my American Airlines card and would be receiving it any day. I was very excited about this because American Airlines is having a huge points sale. The points hit my account this morning, and within 10 minutes, 70,000 points of finding them, they were gone. I was able to fly Finn and me to Quebec City round-trip for 30,000 points total. While I was at it, I checked and saw that my upcoming flight from Nashville to Rome was only 20,000 points each vs the 35,000 points I was using with Alaska miles. I booked the American ticket and then cancelled my Alaska one. I was able to book around $4000 flights for 70,000 points. Woohoo!

Family-Friendly Hotels in Quebec City

My parents have visited Quebec City, and I have wanted to see it. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. If you have read any of my posts, you know my family loves history. Quebec City is over 400 years old and has a charming appearance. There are no Hyatts in Quebec City, and although I would love to stay at the Fairmont Quebec City, it is not in my budget this trip.

Saving Money with Capital One Travel Portal

We needed a room that had two beds, so that narrowed down our search. We ended up booking a room at the Hotel Pur, Quebec City. I first booked the room directly with Marriott. However, I was able to re-book and save $200 through the Capital One portal for the same room. Our room with 2 beds was less than $675 USD for 3 nights. We will also get 10x per dollar spent in Capital One points.

Why Quebec City Feels Like Europe

Quebec City feels like Europe because of its French colonial roots, cobblestone streets, centuries-old architecture, and strong French language and culture that make visitors feel like they are in Europe. It had only been a couple of months since our trip to France. Being in Quebec City reminded us of our past European Adventures.
