Day 1: Red Rock Canyon Hike
On our first day in Las Vegas, we headed to Red Rock Canyon. You can get reservations on recreation.gov to enter the park. They are required from November to March. The park is phenomenal. Our family enjoyed hiking tons of different trails and being out in nature. We love National Parks and State Parks, so this was a huge hit with all of them. I think we all got plenty of exercise that day. Be sure to pack plenty of water and Chapstick. You are in the Mohave desert and it is dry even in December.

Day 2: Death Valley National Park Adventure
Death Valley National Park
On our second day, we made the two‑hour drive out to Death Valley National Park, and wow — it blew us away. We travel a lot, and even with all the places we’ve seen, nothing compares to the landscapes here. Every stop felt otherworldly, and the hikes were some of the most memorable we’ve ever done as a family.

After a full day exploring Death Valley, we headed back to Las Vegas and switched hotels to Paris Las Vegas. After sharing one room at the Hyatt Place for two nights, everyone was thrilled that I had booked two rooms this time. I checked in through the app, skipped the long line of very grumpy people, and grabbed our keys from a kiosk in minutes. My family was extremely grateful for my planning skills.
The location of Paris Las Vegas couldn’t have been better — right in the center of the Strip, walkable to everything. We’d absolutely stay here again.

Day 3: Valley of Fire & Hoover Dam Tour
Valley of Fire State Park
On our 3rd day, we had plans to go to the Valley of Fire State Park and the Hoover Dam. After so much walking the past two days, we decided to do Valley of Fire State Park first before we were all too exhausted to enjoy it. We enjoyed this park. We saw Bighorn Sheep, petroglyphs, and petrified wood. Not to mention amazing red rocks out in the desert. Everything about this made my family happy. After we left the park, we ate lunch in the small town of Overton and then headed to the Hoover Dam. We had reservations to do the Power Plant tour. When we got there, we could upgrade our reservations to a longer tour, but we all decided the Power Plant tour was fine. I had been to the Hoover Dam before, but had forgotten how magnificent it truly is.

Day 4: Exploring Las Vegas Strip & Museums
Husband and son with Las Vegas sign
This was the only full day I had planned for us to actually stay in Las Vegas, so we wanted to make the most of it. We kicked things off at the Atomic Museum, which ended up being such a fun surprise. My family loves anything related to museums, history, or science, so this was right up their alley. The exhibits were fascinating, and we all learned so much about Nevada’s role in nuclear testing and the science behind it. It was the perfect way to start the day before heading back out to explore more of Vegas.
