Sun Princess Teppanyaki Review: Umai Dining Experience
Umai - Sun Princess Teppanyaki Review
We recently sailed the Sun Princess to the Mediterranean. Thanks to the premier package, we tried 6 of the 7 specialty restaurants onboard. On our last night, we visited Umai, the Teppanyaki restaurant on the Sun Princess. This restaurant also has hot pot, which we tried earlier in the trip. Both were excellent. I tried nearly every specialty dining option on my last Princess cruise—and each one had its own flavor and flair. Don’t miss my other Princess dining reviews where I dish on the hits, surprises, and must-book meals -> Princess Dining Guide.
I need to apologize, I took a picture of the menu, but didn’t notice it was blurry! I did not focus on this simple task. However, I got pics of almost everything I ate. laughing, drinking, and making new friends, and a fun video of my husband trying his hand at catching an egg with a spatula. So let’s start!
What Is Teppanyaki on the Sun Princess?
Teppanyaki on the Sun Princess is more than dinner—it’s a sizzling show. At Umai, Princess Cruises’ specialty teppanyaki restaurant, chefs dazzle guests with knife tricks, flaming onion towers, and perfectly grilled meats right at your table. It’s part performance, part feast, and a must-try for cruisers looking to spice up their dining experience. Before I discuss the food, the main event at Umai was Victor, our chef. Victor is from the Philippines. As he likes to say, he is the best Japanese Chef from the Philippines. He was so much fun! I laughed, ate, drank, and had the best time. Our table was so much fun! I have done teppanyaki so many times over the year. However, this was an entertaining take on it. I already booked it again for next August on the Sun.

We had mochi for dessert. It’s not my favorite, but it’s okay. I was so full that I couldn’t have eaten it anyway.
Is Teppanyaki Worth It on a Princess Cruise?
I almost canceled our Teppanyaki reservation—we were tired, and I figured we’d seen it all before. But I’m so glad we didn’t. This turned out to be one of my favorite meals of the entire cruise. The energy was electric from the start—Mark, the manager, set the tone with his upbeat vibe, and our assistant waiters kept the drinks flowing without missing a beat. The food, the show, the laughter—it was a night to remember. You could feel the joy around the table; everyone was having a blast.
