On our recent Sun Princess sailing in the Mediterranean, we purchased the Premier Package. We enjoyed using it each night, trying a different specialty restaurant each night. I was excited to try the Hot Pot experience at Umai. We thought the premier package was definitely worth the expense on the Sun Princess. Check out my complete dining guide for Princess Specialty Restaurants on the Sun here.

Hot Pot

Hot pot is both a meal and a social experience that’s especially popular in East Asian cuisines (Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Korean, etc.).

Never heard of Hot Pot? At its core, Hot Pot is:

A simmering pot of broth is placed at the center of the table, often divided into two sections: mild and spicy.

  • Fresh ingredients, including thinly sliced meats, seafood, tofu, noodles, and a variety of vegetables, are served raw.

  • Diners cook the food themselves by dipping it into the bubbling broth, then fish it out when it’s ready.

  • A variety of dipping sauces (sesame, soy, garlic, chili, peanut, etc.) let you customize each bite.

It’s meant to be interactive and communal — everyone gathers around the pot, cooks what they like, and shares the experience. Think of it as a mix between fondue and a DIY feast. A perfect date night or big group dining experience.

Drinks

I started my dinner with the Umai Pink Drink. This drink was white rum, lime, agave, and strawberries. Very good! I would definitely get it again!

Broth

We were able to choose 2 broths for our meal. We had the broth and the kaffir lime & lemongrass for our dinner. Both were good. I love spicy, so the kaffir lime and lemongrass was my favorite. I like a good kick when I eat. I didn’t think it was very spicy, so if you aren’t into spice, don’t rule it out.

We eat everything, so our waiter suggested we get everything! As you can see, we did! Seafood, meat, and veggies! So much food! We also had two different types of noodles and fried rice. Don’t forget to arrive hungry!

This was my first experience with Hot Pot, and I am already wanting to do it again. It was a lot of fun. We thought this was a fun way to spend our evening. We booked it again for our next adventure on the Sun in August 2026. Have you ever tried Hot Pot? I would love to hear your opinion in the comments!
