San Juan Puerto Rico Cruise Port: Walkable Port

San Juan Puerto Rico Cruise Port

San Juan, Puerto Rico was a brand-new port for me—and it instantly became one of my favorites. Docked aboard Sky Princess, we skipped the organized shore excursions and explored Old San Juan on foot. From colorful streets and historic forts to artisan shops and local flavors, everything was just steps from the terminal. If you're cruising to Puerto Rico for the first time, this walkable port offers the perfect mix of culture, charm, and convenience. Here's what we discovered—and what you should know before you go.

Sky Princess Arrival & Morning Plan

We were able to walk off the ship and start exploring. After speaking with fellow cruise passengers, we decided to disembark the Sky Princess, explore early, and get back around noon before it got too hot.

Local Finds: Jewelry, Artisans & Architecture

This was a great plan for us! We got off the ship and started walking toward the fort. On the way, we went by lots of local artisans. They were extremely nice, and I bought some local jewelry to bring home.

I loved the vibe and enjoyed walking about exploring with no plan. The locals were extremely nice. The buildings and the fort were perfect for this history lover. I would love to return with my husband and explore the fort and castle.

We randomly found this beautiful church. We were invited in. I love visiting churches when I travel to see how the locals worship.
