Why These Items Matter on Caribbean Cruises
As a frequent visitor to the Caribbean, these are my must-haves for cruises. I travel light, so all these items have to fit in my backpack and serve a purpose.

Hammock Float – Your #1 Cruise Companion
My number one item that I take on every Caribbean cruise is my hammock float. It is the number one item I get asked about when cruising. No need to rent expensive floats. I bring my own. I usually travel with just a backpack, so my items have to be small. This takes up no space. It also blows up fast! This means more time floating. I use this at all the ports I can hang out at the beach or pool: Amber Cove, Grand Turk, Ocean Cay, and Princess Cay.
Water Shoes – Comfort & Protection at Rocky Ports
Next up, my water shoes. I bought a pair for everyone in my family. I was in Half Moon Cay in 2024 when I ran into a lady who was wearing these. I asked her about them, and 30 minutes later, I was convinced. She was passionate about these shoes. These are perfect for the Caribbean. I wear them in and out of the water. Some of the ports like Princess Cay, Grand Turk, and Ocean Cay have rocky coast lines. No worries here with these. I protect my feet, and they dry quickly when I get out of the water. They have now earned a permanent spot in my backpack.
Waterproof Phone Pouch – Capture Every Moment
Another item I am always glad I brought from home is this waterproof cell phone pouch. I basically bought it so I could take a picture of myself floating with friends. I love to float! However, this has earned a permanent spot in my backpack because it is a great way to keep up with my phone in cruise ports on and off the ship. They usually sail these in port and on the ship, but they are WAY more money! I am still using the ones I bought back in 2024.
Cruise Cabin Power Strip – Stay Charged Onboard
Next up is a must for a cruise cabin. We carry lots of devices, and there are not a lot of outlets This is especially the case when I travel on Royal Class Ships on Princess Cruises (Enchanted, Royal, Sky). This is now a must for almost all my travel, not just cruises. Especially when I travel with our whole family. As you can see, this one is specifically for a cruise ship.
Travel Fan – Stay Cool, Sleep Better
One last thing, I think is a must for a Caribbean cruise is my fan. This gets carried on all my trips. My husband hates for a fan to be blowing on him, and I love it! I forgot it for my trip to France, and regretted it. I like this fan because it is small. It is about the size of my hand. I can charge it with a USB.
