When my husband and I first got together 21 years ago, I told him I dreamed of going to the Greek Isles. We have been all over Europe and still have not made the journey to Greece. Recently, I got a casino deal for cruises and noticed a Greek Isles cruise listed. It was over a year out. A lot of times these deals are close, so I don’t have time to get the airfare on points. This one was far enough out that I feel confident I can get us free tickets with the 200,000+ American Express rewards still in our account after I booked the 4 of us to Prague.
Even though the cabin is free, we have to pay taxes and fees of about $180 a person. We then have to put a $200 non-refundable deposit down each. This is returned to us as onboard credit when we get on the ship. Although I love a balcony, the last time I was on Princess Cruises I rarely used it so we decided to upgrade our free interior cabin to the premium ocean view. My free 7-day Greek Isles cruise was $1320 with $400 onboard credit. When I priced our room out without my casino offer it would have been over $4000.
This trip is almost a year away. I need to start looking for airfare. My goal is to do this with points. I plan to start doing point.me searches weekly until it shows up.
