Extra Virgin on Virgin Voyages: Handmade Pasta and more

Extra Virgin on Virgin Voyages

If you’re sailing with Virgin Voyages and craving a cozy, indulgent dinner that feels like a warm hug from Italy, Extra Virgin is your spot. This modern trattoria blends handmade pasta, curated meats and cheeses, and espresso-laced desserts into a dining experience that’s both elevated and comforting. I have had so many wonderful meals at Virign and this one was ranked high on that list.

The menu had changed a little from my last sailing. The Calamari was gone, but there were some excellent new editions.

Charcuterie: A Savory Prelude

Start with the charcuterie board, a beautifully arranged selection of:

  • Prosciutto, salami, and aged cheeses

  • House-made pickled vegetables and olives

  • Grilled bread and spreads like fig jam and grainy mustard

It’s the kind of board that invites lingering conversation and wine pairings. The portions are generous, and the flavors are balanced—salty, sweet, tangy, and rich.

Bolognese: Rustic Perfection

The Bolognese at Extra Virgin is a standout—simple, soulful, and deeply satisfying.

  • The pasta is handmade onboard, with a toothsome bite that holds up beautifully to the sauce.

  • The ragu is slow-simmered, layered with flavor, and just the right amount of richness.

This dish feels like something you’d find in a tucked-away trattoria in Bologna, not on a cruise ship. We ended up with cooler weather in the Caribbean on my last trip, and this hit the spot helping warm me up on a rainy day.

Affogato: Espresso Meets Gelato

Dessert at Extra Virgin is a celebration of Italian simplicity, and the Affogato is the perfect finale.

  • A scoop of creamy whiskey-flavored gelato arrives in a chilled dish.

  • Your server pours hot espresso tableside, creating a swirl of bitter and sweet.

  • It’s light, elegant, and ideal after a carb-heavy meal. Mine was topped with chocolate chips, almonds, meringue and biscotti, then whipped cream.

If you’re a coffee lover, this dessert doubles as your post-dinner pick-me-up.

Final Thoughts: Italian Comfort at Sea

Extra Virgin is one of Virgin Voyages’ most beloved dining venues—and for good reason:

  • No extra charge for anything on the menu

  • Perfect for families and couples alike

  • Great for content—the plating is photogenic, and the ambiance is warm and inviting

Whether you’re indulging in charcuterie, twirling handmade pasta, or sipping espresso over gelato, Extra Virgin is the place to be. Extra Virgin delivers a flavorful escape to Italy—without leaving the ship.
