Hyatt Masterclass: How We Stack, Save, and Combine Points as a Family
Stack & Save Series
Welcome to today’s Stack & Save Hyatt Masterclass — where I’m pulling back the curtain on exactly how we use Hyatt points as a family to squeeze every drop of value out of the program. This isn’t a theoretical guide or a list of “you could do this” ideas. This is the real way we stack free nights, Brand Explorer awards, elite perks, and even combine points between accounts to book the stays we love.
Hyatt is one of the easiest programs to maximize once you understand how the pieces fit together. And the best part? You don’t need spreadsheets or complicated math. You need to know how to layer the perks you already have — and that’s what this Masterclass is all about.
Today I’m walking you through:
How we use two Hyatt credit cards strategically
How we stack free night certificates + Brand Explorer awards
How we earn and use Club Access Awards (and gift them!)
How we combine Hyatt points between family members
How we redeem for sweet spots like Hyatt Regency Tamaya
And why Nashville is the ultimate Club Access Award destination
If you’ve ever wondered how to make Hyatt work harder for you — or how to turn small point balances into big redemptions — this is your blueprint.
This post may contain affiliate links for brands and products I personally use and love. If you make a purchase through one of these links, I may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. I only share what I genuinely recommend and use myself, and all opinions are my own.
No Point Left Behind does not use affiliate programs for credit cards; I only share personal referral links for cards I personally hold and use. This transparency is part of what makes NPLB different — every recommendation here comes from real experience, not paid partnerships.
⭐ Why We Prefer One Main Hyatt Account
My husband and I both have Hyatt credit cards, but we use them very differently.
I’m the one who books almost all our Hyatt stays, so we funnel everything through my account. Hyatt’s elite perks are genuinely worth it, and because all our stays run through me, I almost always earn a Club Access Award every year.
And fun fact: you can gift those Club Access Awards. I’ve gifted one to my friend Jenna the past two years because she really puts those to use with her Hyatt stays. Hyatt doesn’t shout this perk from the rooftops, but it’s one of my favorite “quiet benefits.”

I share exactly how this card fits into our family’s travel strategy (and how it pairs with the Hyatt Business Card for even more perks).
Small Perks That Make a Big Difference
Even though I’m only Discoverist — thanks to my Hyatt Card — the perks genuinely make my stays better. Late checkout is perfect for ski trips or pre‑cruise mornings, and the two bottles of water a day make me way happier than they should.
⭐ Why Brandon Has a Hyatt Card (And Why We Kept It)
Brandon opened his Hyatt card last year because the sign-up bonus was ridiculous: 5 free nights.
We used those for Toronto — full trip recap here: Toronto Trip
We ended up keeping his card again this year because the annual free night certificate is always worth more than the annual fee. And surprise, surprise — thanks to the Brand Explorer Award, using that free night triggered another free night.
Hyatt stacking is real, and it is glorious.
⭐ The Surprise: Brandon Had 6,000 Points Sitting There
Since we rarely use his card, I assumed his account was basically empty.
Nope.
He had 6,000 points just sitting there doing nothing.
Technically, 6,000 points can get you a free night at certain Hyatt Place properties (I’ve booked one in Albuquerque for exactly that amount). But for us, combining those points with mine makes them way more powerful for upcoming trips.
And that’s where Hyatt’s point-combining magic comes in.
⭐ How Easy It Is to Combine Hyatt Points
This is the part I love about Hyatt:
You fill out a simple form → email it → and boom, the points move.
No fees. No hoops. No “same household only” drama. Just a PDF and an email.

⭐ Where We’re Using Our Brand Explorer Award: Hyatt Regency Tamaya (12k Sweet Spot!)
One of the reasons combining points matters is because of gems like Hyatt Regency Tamaya. It’s one of our favorite Hyatts, and it’s only 12,000 points per night. That’s wild for how gorgeous and peaceful this property is.
We’re using our Brand Explorer Award there this year, which makes the stay even sweeter. If you haven’t used your Brand Explorer Award yet, this is one of the best redemptions in the entire Hyatt portfolio.

This is exactly why I wanted to move Brandon’s 6,000 points into my account. Sure, 6k can book a Hyatt Place in Albuquerque, but combining those points with mine makes them way more powerful — especially when you’re targeting 12k sweet spots like Tamaya.
Hyatt’s award chart is full of these little pockets of magic, and pooling points lets you hit them faster.
⭐ If You Have a Club Access Award, Use It at Grand Hyatt Nashville
If you ever earn a Club Access Award, I have one very strong recommendation: use it at the Grand Hyatt Nashville.
The lounge there is fabulous — genuinely one of the best lounge experiences we’ve had in the U.S. We did a staycation there a couple of years ago, and I still think about it. The food, the drinks, the views, the vibe… it’s one of those lounges that actually feels like a perk, not an afterthought.

And Nashville is quietly stacked with great Hyatts. Another favorite: The Thompson Nashville — full review here: Thompson Nashville Review
If you’re sitting on a Club Access Award and wondering where to use it, Nashville is one of the best cities to get real value out of it.
⭐ Why We Combine Points Instead of Keeping Them Separate
Elite nights stack faster when stays run through one account
Club Access Awards (which I can gift!)
Points are more powerful when pooled
We plan most trips together, so one balance is easier
Brandon’s card is mostly for bonuses + free nights, not everyday spend
And because Hyatt points are so valuable, combining them lets us book bigger redemptions — suites, cruise-port hotels, and those magical 12k–15k sweet spots you know I love.

⭐ Final Thoughts: Hyatt Makes This Easy — Use It
Hyatt’s point-combining policy is one of the most underrated perks in the entire program. It’s simple, it’s fast, and it lets families maximize their redemptions without jumping through hoops.
If you have a spouse, partner, or travel buddy with stray Hyatt points sitting around, combine them. Those little balances become big redemptions when you pool them together.
And if you’re sitting on a Brand Explorer Award? Go book Tamaya. Trust me.
