Travel days don’t always go as planned — and last night was one of those nights. We missed our connection in Houston due to weather, and instead of stressing, we pivoted straight into Lazy Girl travel mode and booked the Marriott Houston Airport. And honestly? It was the perfect choice for a last‑minute overnight.

If you ever find yourself stuck at IAH, starving, exhausted, and just needing a place to crash… this hotel absolutely rocks.

If you’re curious how I turn trips like this into almost‑free adventures, you can learn exactly how I use points and miles to travel more — Start Here

🏨 You’re Literally Inside the Airport — But You Hear Nothing

Marriott Houston Airport Subway

This hotel is in the middle of the airport — like, truly inside — but the soundproof rooms actually work. I didn’t hear a single plane. Not one. After a long travel day, that silence felt like a gift.

I’ll be honest — after my recent stay at an airport hotel in Las Vegas, I was worried we might not get any sleep staying right at the airport. But that wasn’t the case at all. The room was quiet, cozy, and exactly what we needed to reset before our early flight.

Beth checked us in (she was wonderful), and within minutes we were in our room, shoes off, decompressing.

🍽️ A Surprisingly Great Late‑Night Meal

Wine at the Houston Marriott

We arrived after 9 PM, starving, and the hotel restaurant came through. We split a wedge salad with steak and a nice bottle of wine, and it was exactly what we needed before collapsing into bed.

For an airport hotel at 10 PM? A total win.

Travel delays are never fun, but I try to make the most out of every situation — I’m definitely a glass‑half‑full girl. Even when things go sideways, there’s usually a story worth telling.

🚇 The Subway Makes It Foolproof

You take the airport subway straight to the hotel — no shuttles, no Uber, no wandering around outside in the dark. It could not be simpler.

And in the morning, we hopped right back on the subway to return to our terminal.

And because it wouldn’t be a true travel day without one more twist… at 5:30 AM I hopped on the shuttle going the wrong direction. But never fear — it makes a full loop. We just stayed on, rode it out, and eventually made it to our terminal. Classic Lazy Girl travel moment: mildly chaotic, but it all works out in the end.

😂 The Subway Breakdown (AKA: The Moment Everyone Bonded)

Of course, because this was our trip, the subway got stuck on the tracks on the way back to the terminal.

I’m claustrophobic, so I was trying to stay calm… but then the cavalry arrived.

A man literally pushed the subway car to a spot where it could start up again.

Everyone who had been grumpy about the delay ended up laughing together. It was one of those weird travel moments that became a core memory.

📄 Filing a Weather‑Delay Claim
