If you’re sailing on the Sun Princess and wondering whether Umai Teppanyaki is worth booking, let me save you the suspense — it’s still one of the most entertaining, joy‑filled meals onboard. We first tried Umai on our Mediterranean sailing earlier this year, and we loved it so much that we went back again on our August Sun Princess cruise. And honestly? It was just as fun the second time.
Normally repeat visits feel a little “been there, done that,” but this one didn’t. The food was just as good, the energy was just as electric, and once again we walked away with new cruise friends and full hearts. It ended up being the perfect finale meal for our August sailing — the kind of night that reminds you why cruising is magic.

⭐ What Makes Umai Teppanyaki Special
Umai Teppanyaki isn’t just dinner — it’s a full show. Princess Cruises built this venue to be interactive, energetic, and a little theatrical, and it delivers every single time.
Chefs perform right at your table with:
Knife tricks
Flaming onion towers
Tossed eggs
Perfectly grilled meats and seafood
On our first visit, our chef Victor introduced himself as “the best Japanese chef from the Philippines,” and honestly? He wasn’t wrong. He kept our entire table laughing from start to finish. On our August sailing, our chef was just as fun — different personality, same energy, same level of talent. That consistency is exactly why Umai stands out.
⭐ Menu Highlights
Even though my menu photo turned out blurry (blogger fail!), here are the main items featured during our dinners:
Filet mignon
Scallops
Chicken
Shrimp
Fried rice
Miso soup
Edamame
Vegetable medley
Dessert trio (including mochi)
The menu is simple but well‑executed, and the portions are generous.

⭐ What We Ordered
Across both visits, here’s everything we tried:
Filet mignon
Shrimp
Scallops
Fried rice
Miso soup
Edamame
Mochi
Appetizers
Choose from:
Kabuki Salad
Prawn Cracker Shrimp
Tonkatsu (panko‑crusted pork)
I chose the Tonkatsu both times — crispy, savory, and delicious.
Vegetable Medley
A simple but tasty mix of grilled veggies cooked right on the teppan.
Fried Rice
Buttery, garlicky, and perfectly seasoned — a teppanyaki classic.
Shrimp
Great sear, great char, and cooked perfectly both times.
Filet Mignon
Tender, juicy, and consistently one of the best steaks I’ve had on Princess.
Dessert
Mochi — not my personal favorite dessert, but by that point I was already full.

⭐ Is Teppanyaki Worth It on a Princess Cruise?
Yes — absolutely.
Both times we visited, the energy was electric from the moment we sat down. The chefs were hilarious and talented, the food was excellent, and the entire table bonded and laughed together. It’s one of those meals where you can feel the joy around the table — everyone is having a blast.
If you enjoy interactive dining, great food, and a lively atmosphere, Umai Teppanyaki is a must‑book specialty restaurant on the Sun Princess. And if you’ve got the Premier Package, it’s already included.
