I love an easy Caribbean port day.
Give me a pool, sunshine and my hammock float and I am perfectly happy. I absolutely do not need to book an excursion just because we're in port.
So when we returned to Celebration Key on our Carnival Magic cruise, my plan was very simple:
Get off ship. Find pool. Float. Relax.
Beach bags packed.
Hammock floats ready.
There was just one little problem.
The weather. 😂
It was windy, cool and definitely not the Caribbean pool day I'd pictured.
Planning a Carnival Cruise?
If BlueIguana bowls, Lido Deck days, and a little too much hot sauce sound like your kind of vacation, you can book your Carnival cruise here.

This Was My Second Visit to Celebration Key
Thankfully, I'd already been to Celebration Key and had gotten to really explore it on my first visit.

This time I wasn't trying to see everything.
I wanted to float.
Apparently, that was asking too much. 😂
Mary Went Swimming. I Found a Hammock.
We still got off the ship and gave it a chance.
My hammock float never left the beach bag, but I found an actual hammock and settled in for a nice break.
Mary had other ideas.
She got in that cold pool and swam across the entire thing.
At one point, she had SEVEN lifeguards standing there watching her. 😂
Meanwhile, I stayed in my hammock thinking:
Yep. Still not getting in.
I did have two towels waiting for her when she got out, so I feel like I contributed.
She handles cold-water swimming.
I handle towel logistics.
This is why we travel well together.
Sometimes You Just Have to Pivot
Eventually, I admitted this wasn't becoming the pool day I'd imagined.
And honestly?
I'm not forcing fun.
I got off the ship. I gave it a chance. I enjoyed my hammock. Mary provided the entertainment.
I was ready to go back to Carnival Magic.
And that's exactly what I did.
Back to Carnival Magic
I was already planning to return to the ship for lunch, so the weather just moved up my schedule.
First stop: Cucina del Capitano.
I've already written a full review, so I'll spare you another restaurant review inside this post:

And then I ended up somewhere that will surprise absolutely no one who knows me.
The thermal spa.
Suddenly, abandoning the cold pool didn't seem like such a tragedy. 😂

So my planned Celebration Key day became:
Hammock → Lunch → Thermal Spa
Honestly?
I can work with that.
Sometimes you get the gorgeous Caribbean pool day you planned.
Sometimes your hammock float never leaves the bag, your best friend acquires a seven-lifeguard audience, and you end up back onboard having lunch, sitting in the thermal spa, and getting a mani/pedi.
Would I Go Back to Celebration Key?
Absolutely.
I wasn't disappointed in Celebration Key. I was disappointed in the weather.
There's a difference.
That's also why I'm glad this wasn't my first visit. I'd already experienced Celebration Key on a much better day, and one cold, windy visit isn't going to change my opinion.
I'd absolutely go back and try again.
And yes, I'll probably pack the hammock float.
Apparently I'm an optimist. 😂
My Lazy Girl Takeaway
Travel days don't always go according to plan.
Sometimes you get the gorgeous pool day.
Sometimes your hammock float never leaves your beach bag while your best friend acquires a seven-lifeguard audience. 😂
The older and more often I travel, the less interested I am in forcing a day just because it's what I planned.
Get off the ship. Give it a shot. And if it's not working? Pivot.
In my case, preferably toward lunch and a thermal spa.
That's a vacation day I can live with.
