My hunt for the Best Credit Card for Groceries

Credit Card for Groceries

Up until recently, I used my American Express Gold for Groceries. As a family of 4 with two teenage boys, our grocery bill is massive! When I went through my credit cards recently. It didn’t make sense for me to keep the Amex Gold in my wallet. The annual fee went up for $325, and I couldn’t rationalize the fee. I tried! I even asked for a retention bonus (a few times) it was a no. So I let it go!

Credit Card For Groceries

I love my credit card points, but I decided to try a cash back card for groceries. I am going to be honest, I am not sure I am going to like this, but I thought I would give it a try and see what I think. I decided to give the American Express Blue Cash Preferred a try. This card gives 6% back on groceries up to $ 6,000 in purchases per year. It came with an intro bonus of $300 back after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 6 months. It also came with an introductory annual fee of $0 for the first year and $95 thereafter. Referral link here

We mostly get our groceries from Kroger. I love that they will deliver them and use my Kroger Boost membership weekly. We also use the Kroger Pharmacy. Both of these are getting me 6% cash back!

Strategy

I am going to give this card a year or until I max out the grocery benefits to see how this works in our points and miles strategy. For our upcoming ski trip, the place we like to stay, you cannot use points and miles. I am hoping to earn enough to get cash back to help offset that bill. I will use this card for groceries primarily.

Do you like cash back cards? 6% is a good return. If you have a different strategy, I would like to hear it in the comments below.
