Grand Turk Cruise Port Guide: Free Beach Chairs & Must-Haves
Why Grand Turk Is a Favorite Cruise Port
As a frequent Caribbean cruiser, I love it when I book a cruise that includes a stop in Grand Turk Cruise Port. It is one of my favorite ports in the Caribbean. The water is stunning, and you have a great beach right beside where the cruise ship docks. I love that I can walk off the cruise ship, turn right after I get off the pier, and be on the beach in minutes! I also love that they have free chairs! Yes! You read this right! The first time I went, I didn’t notice the free chairs and just threw my stuff on the beach and headed to the water. I saw the signs at the end of the trip and thought I needed a better plan.

Where the Ship Docks
Cruise ships dock directly at the Grand Turk Cruise Center, which is one of the easiest, most convenient ports in the Caribbean. There’s no tendering — you walk straight off the ship onto a long pier that leads you right to the action. I
At the end of the pier, you’ll find:
A free public beach just steps away
Margaritaville with its massive pool and bar
Shops, restrooms, and shaded seating
The taxi area for excursions and island tours
Everything is walkable, beginner‑friendly, and designed so you can start your beach day within minutes of stepping off the ship.
How to Find Free Beach Chairs (With Photos!)
To save you time (and a little cash), I snapped photos of the key landmarks so you can easily find the free beach chairs. The first time I visited, I dropped my stuff on the sand and was immediately approached by locals trying to sell me chairs. You can pay for them if you want, but there’s no need — Margaritaville has free chairs right on the beach, and they’re just a short walk from the ship.
Step-by-Step Directions from the Pier
When you exit the duty-free shop after departing the ship, turn left. You will see a Starbucks.
Starbuck - Grand Turk
I turn left after passing the Starbucks, and you will walk by some local stores. You will see Margaritaville on your right. I walk in through the gift shop and turn left toward the restaurant, and walk through. You might feel you are going to the restaurant, but there is a path that takes you right through. Just keep walking!
When I get to the free showers, I turn left. Voila! There are free beachside chairs for you to use!

They are even marked free chairs!

Avoiding Chair Rental Hassles
There are a few ways to reach the free beach chairs, but this route is by far the most hassle-free. If I walk along the beach, I usually get approached by vendors trying to rent me a chair—which I totally get, they’re just doing their job. But I prefer to avoid the constant pitches, and this path lets me skip all that and head straight to relaxation.

Grand Turk Cruise Port FAQ
Do you need to book an excursion in Grand Turk?
No — Grand Turk is one of the easiest DIY ports in the Caribbean. The beach is right at the end of the pier, and Margaritaville is free to enter. Excursions are great if you want snorkeling, Gibbs Cay, or an island tour, but you absolutely don’t need one to have a full day.
Can you walk to the beach from the cruise ship?
Yes! The beach is literally a 2–3 minute walk from the ship. Just follow the pier, turn left or right, and you’ll see rows of chairs, soft sand, and clear turquoise water.
Are the beach chairs free in Grand Turk?
Yes — the chairs in front of Margaritaville are completely free. Vendors on the far side of the beach may try to sell you chairs, but you don’t need to pay. Stick to the cruise‑center area for free seating.
Is Grand Turk safe for cruise passengers?
Yes. The cruise center is clean, well‑maintained, and very safe. If you explore beyond the port, stick to marked taxi areas and official excursions, just like you would in any Caribbean destination.
What is the best thing to do in Grand Turk?
If you want a low‑effort day: enjoy the free beach and Margaritaville pool. If you want adventure: book Gibbs Cay (stingrays), a snorkeling tour, or an ATV ride. If you want quiet: walk 10–15 minutes down the beach toward Governor’s Beach.
How long do you need in Grand Turk?
Most cruisers spend 4–6 hours enjoying the beach, pool, and shops. If you’re doing an excursion, plan for 6–8 hours to fit in both activities and beach time.
Is food included at the Grand Turk Cruise Center?
No — food and drinks at Margaritaville and nearby beach bars cost extra. Your ship’s buffet and dining rooms remain open if you prefer to eat onboard.
Can you snorkel from the beach?
Yes. The water is calm and clear, and you’ll often see small fish near the rocky areas. Bring your own snorkel gear if you want to save money.
Is Grand Turk good for families?
Definitely. The beach is shallow, the water is calm, and the cruise center is easy to navigate. Families love the big Margaritaville pool and the short walk from the ship.
Verdict: Is Grand Turk Worth Getting Off the Ship?
Absolutely — Grand Turk is one of the easiest, most relaxing cruise ports in the Caribbean. With a free beach steps from the ship, a massive pool at Margaritaville, calm turquoise water, and plenty of space to spread out, it delivers a perfect low‑effort beach day without spending a dime. If you want adventure, the island also offers great snorkeling, stingray encounters, and ATV tours, but you don’t need an excursion to have a great time.
Whether you’re a first‑time cruiser, traveling with kids, or just craving a simple beach day, Grand Turk is a solid win. It’s beautiful and convenient.
