Bacalar Lagoon Costa Maya Excursion: Tacos, Drinks & Views

Bacalar Lagoon Costa Maya Excursion Guide

My favorite place to visit in Costa Maya is the Bacalar Lagoon. I ended up in Costa Maya four times in 2024. I chose Native Choice for three of the four excursions I booked.

Earlier this year, we were taken to the Bacalar Lagoon resort. A resort that closed back during Covid. It was a fantastic location with real bathrooms and changing areas. I enjoyed lying under a tiki hut and staring at the lagoon until they made me leave.

Booking with Native Choice: What to Expect

When we arrived at the Native Choice kiosk in November, I spoke to Alan, my previous tour guide. He told me they had recently changed locations for this excursion. I tried not to panic. I had promised my husband that he could lie in the shade all day reading a book as we took the 80-minute drive to the lagoon. I was hoping the new location would be equally impressive.

New Location vs. Old Resort: Pros & Cons

I will admit the new location is not at a resort but instead on a piece of grassy land. They have added a tiki hut-type bar for free drinks and a cooking station to make their yummy tacos. They had beach chairs out for people to relax in. I finally relaxed when I saw beach chairs under a big tree. I knew my husband would be happy there. When I saw how clear the water was, I knew I would be happy here as well.

Final Tips for Your Costa Maya Cruise Stop

Overall, I still feel like this was a great way to spend the day in Costa Maya. The lagoon is very relaxing. The tacos are amazing, and you cannot beat free drinks as you take in the natural beauty of the lagoon. Don’t forget to bring cash for your guide, bartender, and driver.
