Athens Greece Food Tour - Acropolis

If you’re planning time in Athens before or after a Mediterranean cruise, a food tour is the best way to dive into Greek culture. We did this tour after our Princess Cruises Mediterranean itinerary, and it ended up being the most memorable experience of our entire trip — even more than the Acropolis.

🏨 Where We Stayed in Athens

We loved the Grand Hyatt Athens — it was the perfect home base for exploring the city. Don’t miss my full review, including how we ended up with a complimentary private‑pool suite.

🍽️ Why I Chose a Food Tour

I love walking in a new city — seeing the markets, the people, the food, and the everyday life. Viator reminded us to arrive hungry, and they weren’t kidding. This tour included so much food, and every stop was better than the last.

Our group was capped at 12, and our guide chose each stop based on what was fresh that day. It felt personal, authentic, and incredibly fun.

🍴 What We Ate on the Tour

🥐 Greek Pastries

Galaktoboúreko‍ ‍my favorite!

Our first stop included three pastries:

  • Spinach

  • Cheese

  • Galaktoboúreko (custard‑filled and my favorite!)

🍩 Loukoumades (Greek Donuts)

Nutella Loukoumades

Nutella Loukoumades

We tried three versions:

  • Plain

  • Nutella

  • Walnut

Fresh, warm, and absolutely delicious.

☕ Traditional Greek Coffee

Prepared in hot sand — such a cool experience. Even my husband (a non‑coffee drinker) tried it.

🍽️ Lunch Feast + Greek Yogurt

This stop was a full feast:

  • Eggplant with garlic

  • Spicy feta dip

  • Calamari

  • Fresh olives

  • Wine

  • The best Greek yogurt with honey I’ve ever had

🌯 Gyros

Even though we were stuffed, we ended with fresh gyros. We grabbed ours to go and walked back to the Grand Hyatt Athens.
