💳 Why Dining Credits Matter
Dining credits are one of the easiest perks to use — and one of the most overlooked. They’re built into premium cards like the Amex Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve, and Capital One Venture X, and they can quietly save you hundreds or more a year if you know how to stack them.
Used right, they turn a normal lunch or date night into a mini travel win.
🧠 What “Stacking” Means
Stacking means combining multiple perks or offers on the same purchase — like using a dining credit, a card offer, and a points multiplier all at once.
Example:
$100 Amex Resy dining credit
$10 Amex Offer for Boqueria
1x points on dining with Amex Platinum
Total savings: $110 + points on your purchase — on a meal you were already planning to buy.
🥂 Step 1: Know Which Cards Offer Dining Credits
Here are the most common ones:
Hilton Aspire Resort Credit: While not a traditional dining credit, I often use this $200 annual resort credit for food and drinks at participating Hilton resorts. It’s one of my favorite “hidden dining” perks for family trips and cruises.

🍴 Step 2: Find Eligible Restaurants
Each program has its own list:
Resy (Amex Platinum) → resy.com or app
Chase Dining (CSR) → log in to your Chase account
Capital One Offers → check your card dashboard
Hilton Aspire → see participating resorts
💡 Pro Tip: Use CardPointers to track which credits are active and where they apply.
💡 Step 3: Stack for Maximum Value
Here’s how I do it:
Example 1 — Amex Platinum at Boqueria
$100 Resy credit
$10 Amex Offer
3x points on dining Total savings: $110 + points for the purchase
Example 2 — Chase Sapphire Reserve at OpenTable
$150 Chase Dining credit
3x points on dining
Portal cashback (Rakuten or Chase Offers) Total savings: $150 + 3x points + portal bonus
I used this credit to book a restaurant in New Orleans during my birthday weekend at the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot — a perfect example of how dining perks can turn a celebration into a travel win.
Example 3 — Capital One Venture X
Dining offer via Capital One Shopping
2x points on dining Total savings: 2x points + cashback bonus
⚠️ Step 4: Avoid Common Mistakes
Forgetting to activate credits
Using the wrong card for the purchase
Overspending just to trigger a perk
Missing expiration dates

🧾 Step 5: Track Everything Automatically
I use CardPointers to track every credit, expiration, and offer. It sends reminders before credits expire and shows which card to use for each purchase.

🧳 Step 6: Turn Dining Savings Into Travel
Every dollar saved on dining is a dollar you can put toward travel. Here’s how I use those savings:

Cruises paid with perks → Best Credit Cards for Cruises
Hotel stays → Point‑Friendly Hotel Reviews
