✨ Heading to London Soon?

Before you plan anything, check out my Lazy Girl Guide to London — the cozy, stress‑free way to explore the city without overthinking a thing. It pairs perfectly with this Day Trips guide and my London Packing List.

The carry-on-only packing life. Everything you need, nothing you don't.

You know the feeling. It's 5:47 AM at the airport. The person in front of you is wrestling a suitcase the size of a refrigerator into the overhead bin while everyone watches in polite, silent horror. You glide past them, slide your carry-on in on the first try, sit down, and crack open your snacks — because you, my friend, have figured it out. That’s the Lazy Girl way, and I am not going back.

London used to intimidate me into overpacking — the weather, the cobblestones, the “what if we hop a train to Paris?” energy. But here’s the truth: London doesn’t need a checked bag. It needs a smart capsule, one great rain jacket, and the right shoes. This list has all three — plus everything else I’m actually bringing, down to the crossbody that holds my Oyster card.

Whether this is your first time crossing the pond or your fifth, this is your complete carry‑on only London packing list — real items, real outfits, zero fluff. Maximum style, minimum effort, no baggage carousel in sight.

☕ Why I Only Travel Carry‑On (The Real Reason)

I’m a carry‑on only traveler for one very simple reason: I like my stuff with me. It’s a control thing, a sanity thing, and honestly a “I refuse to stand at a baggage carousel at 11 PM praying my suitcase made it” thing. I don’t want to wait for my bag. I don’t want to pay for my bag. I don’t want to wonder where my bag is. I want to land, grab my things, and go.

When everything you pack has to earn its spot, you stop hauling around a bunch of “maybe” items you don’t actually need. My carry‑on is intentional. It’s curated. It’s efficient. And it means I’m never the person dragging a 50‑pound suitcase up the stairs of a charming‑but‑elevator‑free London hotel while questioning every life choice that led me there.

Plus — and this is the part nobody talks about — carry‑on only gives you freedom. Real freedom. The kind where you can change plans on a whim because your entire life is already with you. Want to hop the Eurostar to Paris? Easy. Want to take a last‑minute train to Bath? Done. Want to switch hotels because you found a better vibe? Go for it. Checked luggage locks you into whatever plan you made three months ago. A carry‑on lets you live the trip you’re actually on.

And London specifically? It rewards travelers who pack light. The Tube, the cobblestones, the weather mood swings — you don’t want to be managing a giant suitcase through any of that. A smart capsule, one great rain jacket, and the right shoes will take you everywhere you want to go.

Carry‑on only isn’t just a packing choice. It’s a Lazy Girl lifestyle.

🎿 The Only Time I Ever Check a Bag (My Annual Ski Trip)

Full disclosure: I do check a bag once a year — and only once — for our ski trip. Ski gear is the one category of travel where even the Lazy Girl system taps out. Boots, helmets, layers, gloves, goggles… it’s too much. Even I can’t Tetris that into a carry‑on.

We’ve been using the same giant Costco ski bag for almost 20 years, and last winter it finally gave up on us. We lost a wheel somewhere between Bozeman and Nashville, and dragging that thing through the airport felt like pulling a stubborn toddler who refused to walk. It’s time. I need to replace it. The Lazy Girl era of “this old bag will survive one more season” is officially over.

But that’s the point — ski trips are the only exception. Every other trip? I’m carry‑on only. No waiting at the carousel. No wondering if my bag made the connection. No paying $35–$75 just to bring things I don’t even end up wearing. I like my stuff with me, I like knowing it made it on the plane, and I like the freedom of landing and immediately moving.

Carry‑on only is my default. Ski trips are my loophole.

If you’re planning a ski trip too, here’s exactly how we save big on skiing thanks to Epic Passes — real math, real strategy, and the Lazy Girl way to make ski trips affordable.

🍒 My Carry‑On: The Star of the Show (The Cherry Red Era)

My away red carry on and away red overnight bag

Isn’t my red away carry on lovely?

I have to talk about my Cherry Red Away carry‑on because… I am obsessed. Like, fully obsessed. I know I got pulled in by the marketing — well done, Away — but that red color? It is my entire vibe. It’s bold, it’s cute, it’s easy to spot, and it makes me feel like I have my life together even when I absolutely do not.

I don’t buy matchy‑matchy things. I’m not that girl. Except… I became that girl.

I bought the matching overnight bag. I bought the matching packing cubes. I went all in — and I love it.

The bag rolls so easily it’s almost suspicious. I’m not kidding. My family members offer to roll my bag for me. That has never happened in the history of travel. It glides. It floats. It’s like the Cherry Red version got sprinkled with some kind of airport fairy dust.

And because I loved mine so much, we bought the set for my mom. She wanted to look cute at the airport too — and honestly? She does.

But here’s the practical part: This carry‑on fits everything in my London capsule. It meets the standard airline size limits (22" × 14" × 9"), it slides into the overhead bin without drama, and it’s organized enough that I’m not digging around like a raccoon at 6 AM. Lazy Girl, not chaotic girl — there’s a difference.

It’s the star of the show. It’s the moment. It’s the Cherry Red era, and I’m not leaving it.

😎 Don’t Forget Sunnies (And Cross Your Fingers You Get to Use Them)

I always pack a pair of sunnies for London — not because I’m expecting sunshine, but because I’m an optimist. Over all my travels, I’ve had exactly two amazing sunny days in London. Two! So yes, I pack them, I cross my fingers, and I hope the weather gods give me one of those rare “London in a good mood” afternoons.

Plus, sunnies make every outfit look more intentional, even when you’re just trying to find the nearest Pret with your iced coffee.

👗 The Lazy Girl London Capsule Wardrobe (7 Outfits, 6 Pieces)

London is a walking city with moody weather and endless photo ops — which means your clothes need to work hard without making you work hard. This capsule is six pieces that mix and match into seven outfits, all of which make you look put‑together without ever standing over your suitcase at 8 AM having a meltdown.

✨ Halo Essential Wideleg Pant (Short)

Short‑girl friendly, cobblestone‑proof, and effortlessly polished.

✨ Accolade Straight Leg Sweatpant — California Blue

Elevated, structured, and stylish enough for museums and pubs.

✨ Accolade Crew Neck Pullover — California Blue

The hardest‑working layer in the bag.

✨ Democracy Booty Lift Straight Leg Jeans

Your “I actually tried” jeans — flattering, comfy, and photo‑friendly.

✨ Lululemon Dance Studio Cropped Pant

Your walking‑day workhorse.

👟 Shoes for London (Just One Pair — Don’t @ Me)

London will humble you. You will walk 15,000 steps on a casual Tuesday. Cobblestones, Tube stairs, wet sidewalks — your feet need support, not options.

The Reef Neptune shoes are the one pair. Cushioned, weather‑friendly, and stylish enough that you don’t look like a tourist who gave up.

Two pairs of shoes is a fantasy. One pair is the Lazy Girl truth.

🌧️ The Rain Jacket That Will Save Your London Trip

London weather is a character in your trip — and not always a friendly one. Sunshine, drizzle, wind, and a random warm afternoon can all happen in the same hour.

The Columbia Arcadia II Rain Jacket is the one item that will save you. Waterproof, packable, and stylish enough to layer over your capsule without ruining the vibe.

This jacket separates the prepared from the soggy.

👜 Bags That Work as Hard as You Don’t

The Lazy Girl two‑bag system is undefeated:

  • Away Carry‑on in the overhead

  • Away Featherlight Overnight under the seat (yes I bought red -it’s my vibe)

  • Crossbody on your body

💼 Featherlight Duo Crossbody

Your daily London bag.

💼 Lululemon Everywhere Sling Bag 2L

Your personal item + day bag.

Together with the Cherry Red carry‑on, these three pieces are the Lazy Girl London trio.

🎒 How to Pack Everything in the Carry‑On (Yes, Really)

Shoes go in first. Stuff your socks inside them. Roll everything except the wide‑leg pants. Skip packing cubes. Use the sling bag as your in‑flight overflow. Rain jacket goes on top.

Pack for the trip you’re actually taking — not the imaginary version of yourself who somehow needs six cocktail dresses for a rainy London week.
