Exploring Quebec City: European Adventure on Miles & Points

I have a jam-packed summer full of travel. My 19-year-old, Finn, mentioned he wouldn’t mind us traveling together. He didn’t have to say that twice. Finn loves Europe, and we both do! However, I started thinking where we could go to get European vibes without the long flights and jet lag. I immediately thought we should visit Quebec City, Canada.

I knew I had met the spending requirements for my American Airlines card and would be receiving it any day. I was very excited about this because American Airlines is having a huge points sale. The points hit my account this morning, and within 10 minutes, 70,000 points of finding them, they were gone. I was able to fly Finn and me to Quebec City round-trip for 30,000 points total. While I was at it, I checked and saw that my upcoming flight from Nashville to Rome was only 20,000 points each vs the 35,000 points I was using with Alaska miles. I booked the American ticket and then cancelled my Alaska one. I was able to book around $4000 flights for 70,000 points. Woohoo!

My parents have visited Quebec City, and I have been wanting to see it. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. If you have read any of my posts, you know my family loves history. Quebec City is over 400 years old and looks charming. There are no Hyatts in Quebec City, and although I would love to stay at the Fairmont Quebec City, it is not in my budget this trip.

We needed a room that had two beds, so that narrowed down our search. There were many good options, but I decided on us staying at the Hôtel Champlain Vieux Québec. I was able to get 3 nights there for less than $1,000. We could have stayed farther out and saved money on the hotel, but we both want to walk this city, and this is within walking distance of everything we want to do.

Have you ever been to Quebec City? Do you have any must-dos for us to add to our list? I am so excited that I can book an affordable trip for my son and me to visit somewhere new. I love using points and miles to maximize our travel. I hope my posts inspire you to do the same. I would love to see you on my socials: Facebook, TikTok, or YouTube
