I played about $130 total during this cruise — and honestly, I had a wonderful time doing it. The Majestic Princess casino felt welcoming from the moment I walked in, and the best part? They now have a fully smoke‑free casino — and it’s bigger than the smoking one.
For someone like me, who plays low and slow and is sensitive to smoke, this was a game‑changer. The non‑smoking side is spacious, clean, and genuinely comfortable. It’s not a tiny corner or an afterthought — it’s the main event.
I settled into the quarter slots early on, and that’s mostly where I stayed. They had a great selection, and I found a couple of machines I really liked and kept coming back to. I played video poker and then this one machine that I won a bit on it but quickly donated back to the casino!
Staff was friendly without being pushy, machines were well-maintained, and the floor had a relaxed energy that made me want to stay a while. With the smoke-free layout, I never once felt pressured, rushed, or uncomfortable.

Thanks to casino deals, I’ve already booked another Majestic Princess sailing for March 2027 — a balcony cabin for $530 per person on a 7‑day England and Ireland itinerary. With flights booked on points, the whole trip will cost me around $750 total.
Zuiderdam
A classic casino with great bartenders — and a perfect fit for flexible players
I played about $400 total on the Zuiderdam — which is my full cruise budget and the most I will play on any sailing. I love Holland America, and part of that comes from experience: I played them two years ago, spent even less than I did this time, and later noticed I had a handful of less‑popular but totally workable offers waiting for me. My superpower, after all, is flexibility — I can make almost any itinerary work if the offer is good.
And that flexibility is already paying off again: I’ve started receiving a few free interior cabin offers and reduced fares with free play from Holland America. Nothing has lined up with my schedule yet — especially since I already have six cruises booked between now and June — but it’s encouraging to see the offers coming in. It tells me my low-and-slow style still registers with Holland America’s casino program.
The Zuiderdam casino has that classic, traditional feel Holland America is known for — well-staffed, organized, and quietly elegant. I didn’t interact with any casino hosts, but the bartenders were absolutely on point. Friendly, quick, and attentive without hovering — exactly the kind of service that makes a low-stakes evening feel relaxed and enjoyable.
This ship didn’t have video blackjack, so I split my time between video poker and an old-school slot machine. And here’s something worth noting for low-stakes players: I earned more points per dollar on the old-school slot machine than on video poker. Once I realized that, I settled in and was able to score a lot of points as I worked through my budget at my usual slow pace.
Overall, the Zuiderdam gave me exactly what I want from a Holland America casino: comfort, consistency, and a place where my low-and-slow style still counts — and the offers arriving in my inbox prove it.

Celebrity Cruises
A beautiful casino — and I haven’t given up hope
I played about $250 total on the Celebrity Reflection, and while the casino itself is beautiful, I want to be honest about how it aligned with my low‑stakes style.
Celebrity didn’t have video blackjack — my main game — and they didn’t have any of the old-school quarter machines that let me pace myself. I tried the penny slots, and lost my money quickly with very few points to show for it. Three months later, I still haven’t received any casino offers, which tells me my play didn’t register strongly in their system.
But here’s the thing: I haven’t given up hope.
Back in 2024, I sailed Royal Caribbean and played less than I played on Celebrity — my win/loss statement from that cruise was around $120 total, so there’s no way I played a ton. And yet? I now regularly get Royal offers. Not the fancy new ships, but affordable, realistic offers that fit my travel style. It took time, but they came.
Sometimes low-stakes players simply take longer to show up in the marketing cycle.
That’s why I’m still hopeful about Celebrity. They have shorter cruises than Princess, and I know more of my friends would join me on those itineraries. I didn’t deviate from my strategy because I want to earn offers honestly — and because my agent Mary can help me find good Celebrity deals when they pop up. I’m optimistic that with the right sailing and the right timing, I’ll eventually get on their radar.

Princess Cruises
A stunning ship — but a very smoky casino with limited options
I played about $170 on the Sun Princess, and while the ship itself is absolutely gorgeous, I want to be honest: the casino reeked of smoke every time I walked in. I got nasally within minutes, and it was noticeable on every visit.
This ship did not have video blackjack, and the tiny non‑smoking area had no quarter old‑school slots — not a single one. I tried the penny slots, dropped $50, and it disappeared almost instantly.
Eventually, I found a smoking video poker machine near the door, and that’s where I played for the rest of the trip. It was right by the entrance, so whenever smokers came in or stood nearby, I simply left. That was the only way I could make it work.
The space itself is modern and beautiful, but the ventilation didn’t keep up with the smoke, and the game selection wasn’t ideal for low-stakes players like me.
I still enjoyed the ship — she’s stunning — but the casino wasn’t a match for my play style or my smoke sensitivity.
