Our Perfect Day in Key West: DIY Cruise Port Guide
If your cruise docks in Key West, Florida, you’re in for one of the easiest, most walkable, and sunniest port days anywhere. We didn’t book a thing — and still had one of our favorite days of the entire cruise. This was a true Lazy Girl port day: simple, delicious, and full of little moments that made us smile.
Here’s exactly how our day unfolded.

☕ Cuban Coffee Queen — The Highlight of the Day
Our first stop was Cuban Coffee Queen, and this alone made the whole port worth it.
I ordered an iced café con leche, and let me tell you — this drink is elite. They don’t use regular ice. They freeze coffee into ice cubes so your drink never waters down. Lazy Girl brilliance.
We also ordered the Cuban bread with guava and cheese, which is enormous. Four of the five of us split two of them and it was perfect — warm, sweet, melty, and absolutely delicious.
We even bought cold brew to take back on the ship for the next morning. Honestly… we could not have been more brilliant on this move.
⭐ What We Ordered

🌸 Other Lazy Girl Recs (Based on Their Menu)
Classic Café Con Leche
Fresh fruit smoothies
Breakfast sandwiches on Cuban bread
Pressed Cuban bread with butter
Everything is fresh, fast, and flavorful — perfect for a hot Key West morning.
📚 Shopping + Judy Blume’s Bookstore
After coffee, we wandered through Old Town — no plan, no rush. Just browsing shops, enjoying the morning, and soaking up the Key West vibe.
We stopped at Books & Books, Judy Blume’s bookstore. I bought too many books (zero regrets). Supporting a local bookstore owned by my favorite childhood author? Automatic yes.
This ended up being one of my favorite parts of the day — quiet, cozy, and full of Key West charm.
🌞 Wandering + Heat Management (Lazy Girl Style)
We kept strolling, popping into shops, grabbing little treats, and enjoying the island. But Key West in July is hot — humid, sticky, and full sun.
Lazy Girl Rule: When the heat says “go home,” you go home.
So we headed back toward the ship earlier than planned.
🛳️ Back to the Ship for Lunch + Indoor Pool Time
We grabbed lunch onboard (bless the AC), changed into swimsuits, and claimed our favorite spot by the indoor pool.
This turned into the perfect afternoon — cool, relaxing, and full of laughs. No crowds, no rushing, just us girls enjoying the quiet part of the ship.
I’d repeat this exact day with my girls in a heartbeat.
🎒 Lazy Girl Packing List (What We Actually Carried)
This is all we brought — nothing fancy, just the essentials:
Small lightweight tote
Hair clip (mandatory — it was HOT and humid)
Supergoop sunscreen (affiliate — my go‑to)
Plenty of water
Hat + sunglasses
Credit/debit card + small cash
Phone alarm set for 2:30 PM (“WALK BACK NOW”)
Simple, easy, and perfect for a DIY day.
