Why I Booked Through Princess (Cable Car Closed + Shore Excursion Credit)
Gibraltar is normally a perfect DIY port or a great place to use one of my trusted vendors, such as shore excursions or private drivers. But in 2026, the cable car is currently down, which changes everything.
Getting up the Rock required:
a steep hike
a private taxi (limited availability + pricey)
or a ship‑run excursion
And since I had Princess shore excursion credit from my Premier Package I needed to use, booking through the cruise line made total sense.
It ended up being the perfect choice.
Europa Point: Clear Skies + Africa in Full View
Our tour stopped at Europa Point, and the skies were completely clear — the kind of visibility where the entire coast of Africa looks close enough to touch. It’s one of those surreal cruise‑day moments where you instantly start planning a future trip in your head.
This stop alone makes the excursion worth it.
Wine Tasting on the City Walls (Battlefield Fans, Listen Up)
Amazing selection of regional wines
Our wine tasting wasn’t in a random bar — it was held on Gibraltar’s historic city walls. Stone, history, views… the whole vibe was perfect.
And here’s the part that made the day unforgettable:
My husband was texting our son because the exact spot where we were drinking wine is a playable location in Battlefield. So yes — we were literally sipping wine in a real‑life map from the game.
It was hilarious, surreal, and one of the coolest “unexpected cruise moments” we’ve ever had.
If you want to recreate our wine‑on‑the‑city‑walls moment, you can absolutely visit My Wines on your own. It’s easy to reach from town and perfect for a relaxed DIY afternoon. Check out My Wines Gibraltar to plan your own tasting — it’s one of my favorite little finds in this port.

If I Went Back: WWII Tunnels Are the Move
We drove through a few small sections of the WWII tunnels on our excursion, but the full system is massive — atmospheric, detailed, and full of wartime strategy.
If I went back, I would absolutely book a tour of the WWII tunnels. My husband and sons are military‑history lovers, and this would be their dream port day.
This is the port where you skip the monkeys and go straight underground.
