gen x & gen z try virgin voyages together

I was so excited when my Gen Z child Finn agreed to try Virgin Voyages with me. I had been on a few, and I thought the high-quality food would really appeal to Finn. I was correct! Finn loved Virgin Voyages even though he doesn’t love cruising, he has said he would do another one in the future.

Our trip started when we flew into Miami the day before our cruise. I booked us a room at the Hyatt Regency Miami (free on points). With the Chase Hyatt credit card, I get Discoverist status with Hyatt. It’s the lowest tier group of their program but it is still great for us. We get two free bottles of water a day and a late checkout when available. This is perfect for a Virgin Cruise since they usually board later than the other cruise lines. I status matched my MSC status (last year) to Virgin. On this cruise, we had deep blue extras. This got us an early boarding of 1:30. We went right after the Rockstars. We arrived at the dock a little after 1, found our lines, and were ushered in. They held us in an air-conditioned lobby until we were ready to board. The whole process was super quick and easy.

We quickly headed to our room to drop off our luggage. We only had carry-ons, so we carried everything we needed on the ship. Our room steward Rhyan, came by quickly, and I told him I was traveling with my 18-year-old son and asked him to separate the beds for us. He said no problem and asked when it would be convenient. Since we were about to head out to explore the ship, he said he would do it then.

I took Finn (my son) out to explore the ship. First, we headed to the dock to eat lunch. This is my favorite place to chill out on the boat. They have yummy food and great service. Finn had Octopus and Shrimp, and I had Shrimp and Hangar steak. We both agreed it was fantastic. At this point, Finn wanted to explore the boat alone, and I was fine just where I was so we agreed to meet up in our room later to go to dinner together. We had reservations at Pink Agave that evening. It was the meal I was least excited about on my first Virgin Cruise, and I was wrong. It’s now one of my favorites, and I always try to book it the first night to start a great trip. Our meal this evening did not disappoint. Finn loved it. After dinner, I went back to the room and hung out in the hammock, and Finn continued to explore (pretty sure just eating as he traveled around the boat).

Virgin Voyages has quickly become my favorite cruise line. I don’t get casino deals with them, so I don’t travel with them as often as other cruise lines. However, I try to splurge on their cruises when I can fit it into my schedule.
