Princess Cruises Sushi Review: Makoto Ocean Sun Princess
Makoto Ocean on Sun Princess
I recently sailed the Sun Princess through the Mediterranean. Even though I have sailed on Princess numerous times, this was my husband’s first time on Princess. He doesn’t love cruising, so I wanted to make this trip perfect for him. I have been traveling with my 17-year-old son lately. When I travel with my son, I stopped getting the plus package because we weren’t getting our money’s worth. Read my review -> here. However, since I was traveling with my husband this time, I thought we should splurge on the Premier Package. I break down the Premier Package here.
What’s Included with the Premier Package
On our first night on the Sun Princess, I made a reservation at Makoto’s. The restaurant is in an open area of the ship. The view from this part of the ship is amazing! Don’t miss my other Princess Dining Reviews here.
Tip: One thing I did not know before the cruise was that Makoto was open for lunch on sea days, and it is included in the premier package. No reservations are taken for lunch. It is first-come, first-served.
Our 8-Course Sushi Experience
We had the Premier package, so all the specialty restaurants were included. We absolutely loved doing this package on the Sun. We ate at a different specialty restaurant each night. The Matkoto meal is a pre-fixed sushi extravaganza. 8 courses. My husband doesn’t love sushi as much as I do, but we both had a lot of fun at this meal. There was a lot of food. Arrive hungry!
I started my meal off with the Kodai No Hana. It was fun to try but I wouldn’t get it again. It was one of the premier cocktails.
Our meal started off with Miso soup and edamame arriving at the same time. I really enjoyed their miso soup.
I love charred edamame. Theirs was very good.
Chu-toro temaki - this was not our favorite, but I am glad we tried it. The second picture is how they suggested we eat it. I will say we loved the pickles. My husband doesn’t usually eat Tuna, so I was surprised he even tried it but he did.
The Tuna and Salmon Nigri
I was pretty full by the time the sushi selection arrived and totally forgot to take a picture! Sorry! I did capture one of the snow crab which I barely had room for! I love snow crab so I made room!
Our dessert was Mochi. I am not a fan but that is ok because I was extremely full by this point of the meal.
Final Thoughts & Cruise Dining Tips
Overall, we enjoyed this meal. We definitely enjoyed other meals more. I really preferred the lunch menu at Makoto. So my next cruise, we will skip the dinner and have it for lunch.
