Why We Chose the Grand Hyatt Manchester

The Grand Hyatt sits right on the waterfront, steps from:

  • Seaport Village

  • The marina

  • The convention center

  • The Embarcadero

  • Tons of restaurants and walking paths

If you’re cruising out of San Diego, this hotel is incredibly convenient — just a short ride to the port.

Location: Waterfront Bliss

Grand Hyatt Manchester San Diego review

The Grand Hyatt Manchester is situated directly on the San Diego Bay, offering breathtaking views of the water and convenient access to the city’s highlights. From the hotel, it’s a short stroll to the Gaslamp Quarter, Seaport Village, and even the USS Midway Museum. For travelers who love to explore on foot, this location is unbeatable. While our teens slept in, my husband and I enjoyed morning walks along the water. It was an amazing way to start our day.

Rooms: Spacious Comfort

Both of our rooms were modern, clean, and generously sized. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed the harbor, and the beds were plush enough to sink into after a day of sightseeing. The bathrooms were sleek, well-stocked with quality amenities, and the overall vibe was both upscale and comfortable. We really enjoyed the vibe of this hotel. It was a great place to relax after our San Diego adventures.

Amenities: Everything You Need

The hotel boasts multiple dining options, a lively bar, a fitness center, and a beautiful pool area that feels like a resort in the middle of the city. Whether you’re here for business or leisure, the facilities make it easy to balance work and play.

Service: Professional & Welcoming

From check-in to check-out, the staff were friendly and efficient. They handled our two-room reservation seamlessly and made us feel valued, even though we were staying on points. The lady who checked us in was so nice. Since we were paying with points, the resort fee was waived for our stay. Hyatt and Hilton both do this for awards stays!

Sightseeing Highlights Nearby

Golden hour San Diego

One of the best parts of staying at the Grand Hyatt Manchester is how close you are to San Diego’s top attractions:

  • USS Midway Museum – Just a short walk away, this historic aircraft carrier turned museum is a must-see. Explore restored planes, interactive exhibits, and get a feel for life at sea. My family loved this!

  • Seaport Village – A charming waterfront area with shops, restaurants, and live entertainment. Perfect for a leisurely stroll or a quick bite. There was a coffee shop outside the hotel that was perfect for coffee and a quick bit to eat to start our day.

  • Embarcadero – Right outside the hotel, this waterfront promenade is ideal for walking, biking, or enjoying harbor views. We strolled here every day!

  • Gaslamp Quarter – A lively district full of restaurants, bars, and nightlife, only minutes away on foot. This was a more affordable area to eat vs. the waterfront.

  • Balboa Park – A short drive brings you to San Diego’s cultural hub, home to museums, gardens, and the world-famous zoo. We actually walked to the zoo. I thought my family was going to kill me. I love to walk more than my boys. I got us a lyft back to the hotel that evening. Even my feet were tired after being at the zoo all day.

Value: Points Well Spent

Redeeming points for two rooms at a property of this caliber felt like a travel win. It’s a reminder of how powerful loyalty programs can be—turning what could have been a pricey stay into a free, luxurious getaway. I am not a globalist, so I did not try it, but this is one of the few hotels in the US that has a Club Lounge!

Final Thoughts

Our stay at the Grand Hyatt Manchester was a perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and value. With its prime location, excellent amenities, and welcoming service, it’s a fantastic choice for anyone visiting San Diego. And with so many attractions just steps away, you’ll never run out of things to do.
