We recently sailed the Sun Princess for a Mediterranean cruise. One of our cruise ports was Crete. I was very excited about this port. I have always wanted to go to Greece, and this cruise had three stops in Greece: Crete, Mykonos, and Athens.

Off-Road Adventure to Vatolakos Hill
Our tour guide picked us up right outside the gate of the ship. We loaded into a van with a family of 4 from Toronto. We set off on our adventure in Crete. Our driver did a great job explaining everything we were seeing. What we were seeing was the most olive trees I have ever seen in my life. He mixed in local stories with Greek Mythology to keep us entertained as we ventured to the top of Vatolakos Hill.
Check out this view!
This is where the winery we were visiting grows their grapes. I had to try a fresh one. Delicious! It was harvesting season so this was yummy!
Manousakis Winery Tour & Tastings
After we stopped at the top to take in the views, we headed to the winery. We enjoyed a guided tour of the Manousakis Winery, learning about the wine-making process and sampling their finest wines.
Where we had lunch
Traditional Greek Lunch & Unlimited Wine
Our Greek-style lunch, featuring traditional dishes like Dakos, Dolmadakia, Beef Yiouvetsi, and dessert, all accompanied by delectable wines. This was an amazing feast. Our tour also included unlimited wine. The wines were delicious. I regretted only bringing a backpack on this trip at this moment. I would have loved to have brought some wine home.
Final Thoughts
After indulging in generous pours of Cretan wine and a delicious Greek lunch, we made our way back to the Sun Princess—happy, full, and sun-kissed. This wine tasting tour was an incredible way to spend a day in Crete. Between the scenic Jeep safari, the hospitality at Manousakis Winery, and the flavorful local cuisine, it felt like a true cultural experience. For the price, it was an excellent value, and I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting the island. Crete completely won me over
