Airbus Factory Tour
Mobile is one of only five global cities where Airbus assembles commercial aircraft. The Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility Tour lets you witness the final assembly of the A320 family of aircraft, with millions of parts coming together in a hangar longer than two football fields and a ceiling soaring 91 feet high. This is the perfect field trip for any aviation lover. My son Finn loves aviation, so this was the perfect excuse for me to plan a mother/son trip to Mobile to explore all that Flight Works has to offer.
The tour is part of Flight Works Alabama, a 15,000-square-foot aerospace exhibition and education center created by Airbus and the State of Alabama. It’s both an interactive museum and the gateway to the factory floor. The museum is extremely well-done, and we were so glad we made the journey together!

The Airbus Factory Tour
The main event is walking through the A320 Final Assembly Line, where aircraft move through five workstations in a flow-line process until completion. You’ll see:
Wings, fuselage, and tail sections are being joined
Interiors fitted with seats, galleys, and cockpits
Aircraft painted and prepared for delivery
The tour was extremely well done. I have been to a crazy number of aviation museums over the years. I thought this tour was fantastic. They gave us earpieces so we could hear better in the factory. Even though I am not nearly as passionate about aviation as Finn, I was so glad I joined him on this tour.

Why You Should Go
Few places in the world allow public tours of commercial aircraft assembly. We had previously traveled to Seattle to visit the Boeing factory. The museum is perfect for families, couples, and anyone who loves aviation. The museum was fantastic, with so many hands-on exhibits.
